How to Start a Spring Cleaning Business

Business Idea for Kids & Teens

When the weather starts to turn warm, folks start to realize they need some cleanup done around the outside of their house and it’s a perfect opportunity for your son or daughter to provide a service and make some money at the same time!

Here are some ideas to get your child started:

First, take a look around the neighborhood as the snow melts and the grass turns green. You’ll likely see some old leaves from the fall, garbage that’s been blow into yards by the winter winds and just disarray all around people’s houses. As you’re walking make notes of specific things that you see can be done around the outside of homes where you can jump in and take action.

Next you’ll want to get specific with each house. You can start by just looking and writing up a proposal or you can knock on the door and ask permission to write up a spring-cleaning proposal for them. This way, you might feel more comfortable walking all around the house taking notes for your proposal.

On your proposal you’ll want to write:

1. Jobs you think need to be done based on your walk around

2. Fees to do those jobs

3. When you estimate the jobs will be completed

4. Your responsibilities and the owner’s responsibilities. For instance, will you be providing all the tools needed, etc?

5 Your contact information

When you’ve finished your proposal, call your potential customer and set up a time to deliver the proposal to them. Talk through the details and set the date to do the work. You may want to collect a deposit when they confirm with you and collect the balance upon job completion.
